‘Yea, in the very moment of possessing,
Surges the heat of lovers to and fro,
Restive, uncertain; and they cannot fix
On what to first enjoy with eyes and hands.
The parts they sought for or those they squeeze so tight’*
Gentle western wind enamored of her purity
Caught swirling in a fury of passion
Overtaking the nymph of Elysian fields
Perianths cascading from her lips
Dew of heaven, conceived in the womb of earth
Meadows bloom with myriad colors where there was but one
Ephemeral four petal blue flower of alchemy, mystic rose
Eros embraced in the mandala of calyx and corolla
Only her scent remains
Insufflation of Spring’s promise
Bounty, beauty and union abound
Gifts of the goddess framing our pleasure

You have many of my favourite things here, Anna, Roman mythology, Pre-Raphaelite art and poetry ~ Flora’s festival approaches 🙂

i love the music in this, the dance of spring, and i love the way you turn it back to us in the end, framing our pleasure. perfect.
hey you! its good to see you…smiles.
while i have been here i took a bit more time in particular with the second and third stanzas…i looked up Perianths, and it plays well with the womb in the next line…and the alchemy and eros of the next stanza…and scent…smells are key to me…smiles…
hope you are doing well anna
Ah.,.. what a great read… the use of words and colors .. the use of mythology.. and a wonderful rhytthm.. a poem to return to …
What a beautiful promise of Spring ~ I hope you are well Anna, smiles ~
This is so full of imagery – bursting with Spring! Very cheerful 🙂
Rich imagery and full of a promise I need.
Nice to see you back with your signature word craft and reference of vast knowledge of old. Relating it to spring brings back the reality of mythology to the current situation.Great imagery Anna!

Lovely words for a lovely image, Anna–and the added enjoyment of your classic references to enrich the experience.
so gently written
Beautiful writing–this line I like very much:
Meadows bloom with myriad colors where there was but one
It’s still pretty chilly even here in Savannah, but we’ve had enough warm days that some flowering trees and shrubs are starting to awake. My azaleas are full of flowers!
I adore your framing which adds to the beauty of these days.
Boticelli women are absolutely gorgeous. I have seen the original in Florence. Beautiful poem to match amazing art.
Anna, great images in this. Beautiful.
Luscious & sensuous with colors & imagery. Perfect pairing with the Botticelli painting 🙂
