Please use headphones and turn up the volume, both on your computer and YouTube to hear the audio, this is a spoken word poem. It is an erasure poem based on the 3rd chapter of The Kama Sutra of Vatsyayana. I am hosting Meeting the Bar: Critique and Craft today at dVerse Poets Pub where we will be exploring Erasure Poetry. There are tons of ways to approach the prompt so for further examples see here and here or visit others who’ve already posted their erasure poems today. Please don’t be intimidated by the visual aspects of this prompt, you may simply chose words from an existing text and post them (attributed) on your blog as you would any poem or you can incorporate white out, marker, paint or multimedia to create a visual aspect. I would love for you to join us later.

[…] November. It was a new kind of fun, dwindling words away until only these nine lines remained. Anna Montgomery @dverse ignites such […]
hey anna…any way to crank the volume up on your reading? i have mine all the way up and its still just a whisper…was watching the color display before i heard the whisper of you…ha…
It’s intended to be quiet due to the intimate nature of the subject. However, you are supposed to hear me :). Was the YouTube volume all the way up too? Sometimes YouTube sets the volume automatically in the middle. Otherwise you could try headphones. The program I created it in won’t let me boost the volume and I had to create two movies in order to create a soundtrack and use the music.
will try headphones and see…i think my son has some that have a volume boost on them..
Me too–it sounds like you’re whispering in another room. I hear a clear word now and then as the visual spins. (Course I might be too prudish to hear it very clearly.)
I’m sorry, I don’t know what to tell you all, I can hear it loud and clear on my speakers. There isn’t any way I can fix it on my end without remaking the video from scratch and that would take a couple hours.
ha. ok, heard it that time…smiles…well maybe blush….ahem….wow you went all out and nice cohesion of thought throughout, really woven well together…might have gained a few pointers there….smiles….
That made me giggle, thanks for finding a way to listen. Again, I’m sorry it was difficult. Yes, the Kama Sutra is definitely known for its helpful hints. Hopefully poets will have some fun with this today!
I listened to it with earbuds and could hear you clearly Anna. I think it is immensely beautiful and I enjoyed it. Brilliant. I loved it.
Thank you so much for the music track, I think it really needed it and I was excited to find it blended so well with the reading I’d done. Wow, I’m blushing here ;)!
As always, exceptional work, Anna. Thanks for doing this. Here’s mine:

Thanks Laurie, I have been a bit behind and just put the finishing touches on the prompt so I’ll be right there.
this was just wonderful anna…and heck yes…i think i may not turn up for poetics later cause i’m busy kissing ya know…smiles
and oh…i mean meetingthebar of course…see…i’m already totally confused..smiles
Awesome! Thanks for the big laughs!
This was its very own kiss of words… just lovely. I have no time to join in this week, but one of these days I would love to try an erasure poem.
As always, your brilliance and your tenderness shine through, and what a fabulous combination!
Well when you have time you know I would love to see it! Thanks, I’ve been in a kaleidoscopic mood lately :D. Your words always bring such a warm smile, thank you!
This was quite beautiful, Anna! I enjoyed hearing you read it too. Wonderful ‘erasing,’ I would say! Good choice of material. I enjoyed this challenge, Anna. Thank you.
Thank you Mary; I’m so glad you enjoyed it! I’m on my way over to read yours now :).
I cranked this all the way up and… Wow, Anna, beautifully done with a natural (and very hot) flow to it!
Thanks Susan, I was whispering as it felt odd to read it loudly aloud :). So glad the audio and the poem worked for you.
this is an exquisite poem, reading, and distillation of the kisses. I believe you have found new and fresh in your presentation of such an ancient topic and text. your visuals enhance and inspire the experience. wonderful!
Goodness Jane, you always know how to make my day! Thank you.
Sorry Anna… I tried headphones, earbuds and though the comp both here and at Youtube… can’t hear it at all. I can hear you’re saying something but, can’t make out what it is. I tried 😦 and, it sounds like it’s quite lovely too.
Sorry :(.
Had to get headset to hear it – quite beautiful and sensuous as well as sensual. Sorry it took so long to respond. Worth the wait though and love the accompanying art work and music. A true multi-media event. Wow!
Thanks Gay, always a joy to see you!
I went right to the headphones and found it very listenable. I intend to investigate all four types of kisses a little later tonight! Nicely done, immensely creative.
Haha, well have fun with that.
very psychedelic !!
Groovy :).
Ah, I thought I was going deaf until I saw other comments. Will try again with headphones. The few words I caught, the timbre of your voice and the visual images are exquisite. And the Kama Sutra! :0)
Thanks, sorry for the trouble.
Holy Hannah, what incredible creativity! I have always been a “kiss” booster, and I thought in my youth I had explored all the facets of that tenderness, that foreplay, but hey, you presented us with parameters of passion never dreamed of; wonderful. You deserve the “Kreativity Kudo” for this incredible effort, this spicy tongue of explication & wonder; thanks!
Thanks Glenn! I’ll take those kudos and new parameters of passion :D. I was incredibly inspired, good to see that translated.
I like this..better than a yoga dvd ,,,, with feeling!
Haha, nice!
Thank you so much for sharing this form with us. What a fascinating way to explore styles, motifs, history, based on choice of source text.
You’re welcome. I’ve gotten a lot out of it so I thought others might too.
I, too, didn’t have much luck hearing you very clearly, Anna. But what I did get sounded quite sensuous…well, after all, it’s the Kama Sutra…beautifully executed!
Sorry about that, I’ll definitely amplify the soundtrack before adding it to the video next time. The real problem is that my expensive microphone is broken again so I had to use a cheap headset mic.
Pleasant, creative, soothing montage
Thanks Sabio, glad you decided to join us.
You’ve got me all excited, girl. What a creative topic! I can’t listen yet, but I’ll be back when the kids are in bed and I track down some headphones. I look forward to it.
Thanks! I think you’ll have a lot of fun with the prompt.
Sorry I couldn’t hear either and I feel I’ve missed out 😦 Visually it’s stunning… I’m sure it must be fabulous. Thankyou for the interesting prompt.
I’m sorry, thanks, the visuals were created in a kaleidoscope program from some of my paintings.
Beautifully done… Luckily I run a Sonar home music studio, so I was able to amplify. It really makes a difference when you are emotionally in touch with the material, the composition and interpretation reflect that connection.
Of course you do :D. Yes, that’s very rare for me when it comes to love. After reading yours I wish I’d gone with science.
Beautiful complementarity of voice and images Anna. Delicate and totally absorbing.
Thank you Becky I really look forward to reading yours!
great reading Anna. You really emulated the affirmation/meditation feel here. So cool that you used the Kama Sutra here, the way you read it, I have to say, it’s much better than the original, but that said, it has been a while since I read through it. But that doesn’t matter, the point is how good your reading is, passionate, soft, rhythmic, flowing, sensual and real. Outstanding in so many ways.
Thank you, I was very inspired. I’m excited you joined us and will be by to read soon.
Hypnotic color play, and passionate reading. Skillful reading made this enjoyable to listen to. 🙂
Thanks :D. I was playing X-Com yesterday and wondered if you’ve played it.
No I haven’t. Heard good things about it. I’ve been playing Borderlands 2.
Wow, it’s the soft and demure offering, so pleasing to the ear. Got it ok! Nicely Anna
Hank
Thank you for the compliment!
Will have to go and practice…!
Excellent, enjoy!
Never too old to learn something – think I’ll share it with my Honey. What a gorgeous distillation.
Very true :D, please do.
Amazing work, Anna. Amazing. I heard it just fine and love the ambiance you create with background music, tone of voice and manner of speech. I cannot imagine simply reading this one. Hearing it is ideal. Magical. Thanks for the prompt at dVerse, too.
Thank you Kim, you’ve just made my day! I’m looking forward to your entry!
Very interesting and loved the visuals especially. Well-suited to the text. K.
Thanks K. I got this fun new program that makes them from my paintings.
This is beautiful….I don’t know where all my comments evaporated…:-(..I think I have to comment once more everywhere…
I’m sorry, I’ll check the spam filter.
Wow that’s very impressive Anna! I love the visuals and the reading which are both haunting and magical. The music fit perfectly. Beautifully done 🙂
Thank you, what a lovely compliment!
anna, this great!
spoken word is such a big deal to me, its what i believe all poetry should be, its how poetry was first introduces to me, its how everything i write is intended to read. and you read this so well, i really enjoyed this. you should record more… you’ve got a great voice for it, i could listen all day. again, great poem, great reading.
Thanks I love to record but find no one listens to it unless I force them too :). So many poets tell me they want to read it for themselves but often they find the recordings, especially of my more experimental work, helpful. I really appreciate your encouragement.
Sorry for late comment, but last night turned into today before I knew it. Glad I waited. Excellent with head phones. Luv your voice and the tour of a kiss and its travels. Maybe I’ll play it again with some candles later 🙂 Very nice. Sometimes I need the words to help translate phrasing I’m not familiar with, but I was able to follow along very nicely. Some language and tone is universal.
That is very true Henry :D; I hope you enjoy your candlelit poetry time later, haha!
