Eros falls from a sunlit chariot
into a sea of destruction
adrift in the salt-sting
of an inner exile
golden wings beating
swift as the whirlwinds
of a tempest roaring
melancholic around him
loosing breath and bearing
his desire broken upon
the craggy shore
he pines for her
transforming love
butterfly wings alight
liberate her longing
she dreams of moonlit nights
the salt-sting of his kiss
ravaging tempest of bliss
transformational encounter
a consummate release
his true nature
centers her in the
splendor of their love
reunited after trials
wounded and contrite
she is awareness
wed to his glory
enlightened cosmic sight
immortal soul revealed
she breathes life into the circle
he lights the internal flames
forever entwined in flight
iridescent wings lift lovers
to yet unknowable heights
Beautiful–simply beautiful 🙂
the last nine lines of this are particularly beautiful…i like the feel of completeness…and complementing each other that i get in reading it…and so good to be back together after so long as well…smiles.
Anna, I thoroughly enjoyed the mythology of this!
I think your words compliment the statue very well
The mythology that describe the perfect love where barriers are broken in a perfect way. Really lovely, and I agree that the statue perfectly describe this.
A rich flight to enliven my Sunday with dreams of ‘unknowable heights..’ thanks for that, Anna With Best Wishes Scott http://www.scotthastie.com
sounds def. like they were made for each other…when two become one…there’s so much magic in this
How very romantic ~ And I admire that love can arise from the transformational encounter and this:
she is awareness
wed to his glory
Good to see you Anna, smiles ~
So deeply erotic!
I like your retelling of the myth–in the beginning I saw the link between Eros and Icarus for the first time. But as you say, after trials, these two arel together. I love the awareness wed to glory, a perfect female/male pairing. I wonder which is hardest to bear–the awareness?
And you, Anna, breathe life into the deeper meaning of this beautiful myth. This has to be one of the best poems based on myth that I have read–and one of your best, too.
I think that you personified a lovely tale from this magnificent piece of cultured art. There is much bliss to be had in searching for someone’s Eros. Great poem!
